nontoxic things : playdough
i have slowly fallen in love with being creative in the things i give my daughter. if i can make it, i sure as heck will try!
home girl has never played with playdough before, not for any other reason other than the fact that i just never thought to buy any lol
i was about to buy her some and it dawned on me that i could totally make that myself & i would know that if she *or any other kiddo that i have as a guest in our home* happened to put it in her mouth and eat it, she’d be fine and dandy!
super simple recipe, barely any time & cleanup is so easy! so here ya go!
INGREDIENTS :
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
2 tsp cream of tartar(there is no organic cream of tartar; just non-gmo)
1tbsp of any food-based oil(olive, coconut, avocado)
1 cup warm water
coloring of choice
and i add essential oils to make them smell yummy! but you do not have to do that at all. just make sure if you do, they are approved ingestable essential oils for safety reasons! i used grapefruit, orange, peppermint, cinnamon bark and lemon
*speaking about coloring, i wanted to add an option besides food coloring! i used food coloring because i already had them on hand, but you could use things like beetroot powder, turmeric, spinach, and spirulina! “india tree” is a great option for natural food coloring!
INSTRUCTIONS :
mix dry ingredients in a pot
add food coloring of choice to the warm water and mix well.(i honestly don’t add the color until i kneed it because then i can make a double or triple batch and just make colors as i need them)
add oil and colored water to dry ingredients and stir well
heat the mixture on low/medium heat and constantly mix/fold with spatula until it forms into a dough like ball
remove from heat once it reaches a playdough like consistency and allow to cool
once cooled, kneed until it’s soft and formable :)
